Span of the Jones polynomial of an alternating virtual link

چکیده
For an oriented virtual link, L.H. Kauffman defined the f polynomial (Jones polynomial). The supporting genus of a virtual link diagram is the minimal genus of a surface in which the diagram can be embedded. In this paper we show that the span of the f -polynomial of an alternating virtual link L is determined by the number of crossings of any alternating diagram of L and the supporting genus of the diagram. It is a generalization of Kauffman-Murasugi-Thistlethwaite’s theorem. We also prove a similar result for a virtual link diagram that is obtained from an alternating virtual link diagram by virtualizing one real crossing. As a consequence, such a diagram is not equivalent to a classical link diagram. AMS Classification 57M25; 57M27

A geometric characterization of the upper bound for the span of the Jones polynomial
Let D be a link diagram with n crossings, sA and sB its extreme states and |sAD| (resp. |sBD|) the number of simple closed curves that appear when smoothing D according to sA (resp. sB). We give a general formula for the sum |sAD| + |sBD| for a k-almost alternating diagram D, for any k, characterizing this sum as the number of faces in an appropriate triangulation of an appropriate surface with...

We show that if {Ln} is any infinite sequence of links with twist number τ (Ln) and with cyclotomic Jones polynomials of increasing span, then lim sup τ (Ln) = ∞ . This implies that any infinite sequence of prime alternating links with cyclotomic Jones polynomials must have unbounded hyperbolic volume. The main tool is the multivariable twist–bracket polynomial, which generalizes the Kauffman b...
متن کاملUnsigned State Models for the Jones Polynomial
It is well a known and fundamental result that the Jones polynomial can be expressed as Potts and vertex partition functions of signed plane graphs. Here we consider constructions of the Jones polynomial as state models of unsigned graphs and show that the Jones polynomial of any link can be expressed as a vertex model of an unsigned embedded graph. In the process of deriving this result, we sh...
متن کاملAlternating Sum Formulae for the Determinant and Other Link Invariants
A classical result states that the determinant of an alternating link is equal to the number of spanning trees in a checkerboard graph of an alternating connected projection of the link. We generalize this result to show that the determinant is the alternating sum of the number of quasi-trees of genus j of the dessin of a non-alternating link. Furthermore, we obtain formulas for coefficients of...

The Jones polynomial of an alternating link is a certain specialization of the Tutte polynomial of the (planar) checkerboard graph associated to an alternating projection of the link. The Bollobás–Riordan–Tutte polynomial generalizes the Tutte polynomial of planar graphs to graphs that are embedded in closed surfaces of higher genus (i.e. dessins d'enfant). In this paper we show that the Jones ...
